Restaurant accounting with automatic entries
In many restaurants the cashier records the sales and then the accountant re-keys them. In BayanLine the journal entry is posted from the order itself, so the books are ready and the accountant's time is not spent copying.
What is recorded when a dish is sold?
- The payment: cash in the box or the bank balance goes up.
- Revenue and sales tax: recorded from the value of the order.
- Cost: what was used from stock by recipe is recorded as cost of goods sold.
- A refund: recorded with reversing entries, so no gap is left between the till and the books.
What does the accounting provide?
- A trial balance, income statement, balance sheet and cash flow.
- Cash boxes, banks, suppliers and customers, fixed assets and depreciation.
- Shift, day and month closing, so nothing is left hanging.
- Stock, cash boxes and banks are reconciled with the books and any gap is flagged.
Shifts and the till
A shift is closed with a count of the cash denominations; if the count differs from what was expected, the difference shows, is settled and is recorded in the books, instead of being found days later with no trail.
